Hi, I'm Kimberly (I hate being called Kim; only my mother gets away with that). I'm 39 years old and I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up. I've taken a few classes in Philosophy and Religious Studies, and have thought of teaching, but the years of school it would take (and the low chances of actually getting even a part-time job! Witness the budget cuts last year and possibly this year too) are daunting. So this term I'm kind of exploring options outside of school.

I've never taken an online class, but it sounded like a great idea, especially since I don't keep a regular schedule (I'm as likely to be awake at 2 a.m. as 2 p.m.) and because I live in Cottage Grove -- half an hour to school isn't long, but no commute is even better. It also means I won't have to miss any classes to watch the baseball playoffs (go Giants!!!) I was sort of afraid that there wouldn't be much discussion in an online class (I've had some really great classes where I learned a lot from classmates) but so far it seems like that won't be a problem. It's cool to meet so many different people!

I'm blissfully married, childfree by choice, and devoted to my non-human kids: a pug dog, a tabbycat, and 3 sweet & incredibly intelligent rats. In addition to animals of all kinds and baseball, I love books (I read a lot of historical fiction, some science fiction, light mystery, natural history and science), rain & fog (I'm sooooo happy it's Fall!), paper arts (collage, a wee bit of drawing & painting, etc), dreaming of travel, pineapple pizza, and Nikki and Ryan on American Idol (my guilty secret; I'm jazzed about going to the concert in Portland).
