Below are the directions for mIRC.
REMINDER: We are NOT meeting
through the WebBoard Chat feature; it
wasn't working when I tried it on Friday.

You can download mirc for the PC at
http://www.mirc.com then follow the
directions below. You might want to try the
program out before Sunday night so you
know how to do things.

1. When you install mIRC on your
computer, the "mIRC Options" window
will pop up. If you've already downloaded
it and closed the window, you can open it
up again from the "File" menu.

2. Enter a nickname and alternative
nickname. You can put whatever you want
in the other fields or leave them blank.
The nickname is what will identify you in
the channel.

3. Right above the "Connect to IRC
server" button is a pull-down menu to
select a server. Select any of the
"Undernet" servers listed. Any server with
the word "undernet" in it is an undernet
server.

4. Click "Connect to IRC server".
Sometimes at peak times servers are full
and won't let you connect to them. If one
doesn't work, thats ok, try another. Often
Mirc will automatically try to connect to the
next available Undernet server for you. I
find that McLean.VA.US.undernet.org
works most of the time.

5. Once you're connected to a server, the
"mIRC Channels Folder" window will pop
up. Enter "#epistemology" into the text
window and click the "Join" button.

6. Congratulations, you're now in the
channel. A list of the people in the
channel will appear to your right. To send
a message to the channel, type it into the
small text window at the bottom of the
screen and press the "Enter" key

7. To keep a record of the chat, right click
on the square blue and red icon in the
upper left hand corner of the channel
window, just to the left of where it says
"Undernet" and your nickname. Then
choose "buffer" and "save log as". You
can make mIRC log automatically by
going up to the "File" menu, choosing
"Options" and then selecting "Logging"
from the list of options to the left.
