When I asked a trusted "tutor" to tell me about Berkeley he replied, "if a tree in a far away forest falls, crashing into the ground and there is no one there to hear it, does it make a sound?". I said yes. And although I haven't completed all the reading yet, he hasn't changed my mind. Berkeley sounds a lot like Descartes to me. Everything comes from within our "thinking" minds. So far, he seems to believe that everything is a perception. His arguments regarding color, etc., sound good to a certain extent, but then he never really explains how we see a green plant and then when it dies, we see the same plant brown. I too believe that our minds control how we process the information, but I don't think our minds make up all of the information. Anyone?? I will read on and see if his arguments come around to a complete circle, like Descartes did.
