i'm not sure i agree with you lisa. i mean, certainly our ability to reason right from wrong (on an ethical level) is based strongly on our personal experiences during childhood. similar things such as manners, grammar, etc. are also based on experiences. but there are things people *are* born with knowing how to do. but i think that "gut feelings" come from the same thing that ensures that a dolphin knows how to swim. we just *know*. for instance, we know how to eat, but we are *taught* what to eat and what utensils to use. we know how to procreate, but are taught how to do it while avoiding disease. there will always be aspects of man that are pure instinct--pure animal instinct, because we are still animals.
