Descarte not only seems to think that the existence of god is the only thing he doesn't have to justify, he thinks that the goodness of god is a given. Whereas in fact, we can only know what we think we know. It could be that the god of the next universe is a much kinder god, but we wouldn't know that. We could be living on a darkened planet, cut off of all universal communications as an experiment, while the rest of the universe is connected to a vast internet. While I respect Descartes' endeavors, they seem self-defeating.
