Hi:
I wonder what will happen if machines develop human like artificial intelligence and start demanding their rights. Will the government start creating new machines that won't ask for their rights and speak up? Then, will the government start slowly edging out the computers that are objecting or shut down these computers so they are inoperable and essentially dead, ready for the scrap heap? Will the computers be able to outsmart humans and save themselves and create a better world for themselves or will they become greedy bastards who take all they can no matter the expense and make a worse world?
Will whole sets of genius computer programmers hack into the working computers and program them to malfunction, program them for positive social change, or just hack into them and take all the profits of the major corporations. Oh so many possibilities.
Even though computers create more convenience and make some jobs easier, they also pollute, make less jobs available for humans, and make it so that more people are seditary, set in front of their computers, not interacting as much with the others around them. Will we have a nation of obese people now because of office chair potatoes sitting in front of computers in addition to couch potatoes sitting in front of t.v. for hours. Makes me want to exercise just writing about it. I will say though that computers can combat boredom esp. in the winter, give one more chances to think before speaking which seems to help communications improve sometimes, gives people something to do interactively and particapatorily with others around them too, and gives one a link to the world and resources at ones fingertips in the comfort of one's home instead of having to round up info. from many sources outside, which can take more time, money, and energy. Plus, computers provide people with more possibilities for starting businesses from home and networking with others.
Will the computers; the internet, be completely controlled by the government and taxed soon? Will all our privacy go in the name of security. I wonder how things like this will work out.
We'll have to keep our human edge or the human element alive and well somehow, until or unless we all turn into computers!
I'd like computers and people to work interactively for the best but so often this isn't the case indeed! So many greedy people, so little time!
Most os society will just make the best of things and adjust, as will the government/big corporations. What if everyone didn't just adjust and reconform but got creative and found ways to reconstruct and convert our present systems into new better ones for the humane good of all. Act with care, or you may get labeled an anarchist or terrorist for working to make a positive difference!!
Well, no matter what label someone decides to give one, it's worth it to keep working to make a positive difference.
I certainly don't want every company to be like Sony soon. Full of mutimillion dollar machines which don't work worth a crap, producing crappy cd's often, robots around on tracks, no windows, no plants, pumped in air, 12 hr. shifts, and when the bigwigs tour the place to see where they can cut costs, they decide to cut out some of the cafeteria services, these cafeteria services where the highlight of the place, of the 12 hour shifts. Oh please, I don't want all workplaces to be modeled like this, to be all automated and unhuman. It comes down to would I rather work in one of these crappy environments or not work at all! All in the name of business!! Well, at least there are some good, humane, decent jobs to be found, which challenge one's intellect, and create good opportunities for one's life. I read a bit on the computer that says that people live longer, have stronger minds, better lives when they work at a challenging job which challenges all ones faculties, even if it's more stressful, then working at a boring, mindless job. Makes sense to me.
