How does religion accentuate differences and conflict in society?

It defines people into superior and inferior. It causes conflict about almost anything. Anything that is not right to them, is the wrong way. You are labeled a sinner, and they say you should go to hell. There is no compromise. Groups and families split because of conflicting ideas. For example, my step dads family is a religion {I can't remember the name} where they don't celebrate birthdays and holiday. They have all kinds of weird rules and regulations. Well, my step-dad got out of the religion, and his family disowned him. Religion causes discrimination, and feelings of hate. I don't think it is necessarily God or his word that do that. It is what people make of it. For example, if you don't go to church people will say you are a sinner. But back in Jesus' time, they worshiped any where. He never said, if you don't go to church every Sunday and be perfect, I am sending you to hell. People make up all these rules, that aren't even the word of God. That is what makes all the problems in society.
