II. Staff Rights and Responsibilities

A. All Science Staff:
1. While attending college functions, all Science Division staff shall treat other individuals with respect.
2. All science staff within the division shall be treated equally under guidelines as set forth in collective bargaining agreements, the Institutional Bill of Rights, and division policies.

B. Faculty members:
Faculty members are employees whose primary function is instruction and training of students in subject areas specified by the college. To accomplish these goals in support of instruction, faculty shall work cooperatively with each other, the division chair and with support staff to serve students.

C. Support Staff:
1. Support staff shall work with other division members by performing tasks specified in their college-prepared job descriptions.
2. Support staff are fully participating members of the division and are recognized as professionals in their particular fields.
3. Support staff in the division are primarily responsible to the division chair. However, they are also responsible to faculty members requiring their assistance and to other support staff appointed as their supervisors.
4. Support staff shall treat faculty members equally, adhering to division guidelines.

D. Division chair:
1. The division chair has the responsibility and authority to administer and coordinate division activities.
2. The division chair also has the responsibility to involve division staff in the development and implementation of priorities, policies, and procedures relating to division operation.
3. The division chair shall defer decision making to SAC or the division as a whole except in areas of hiring, termination, evaluations and responsibilities outlined in this manual and in the Charter.
