I think that schools are very much preoccupied with order and control. Some teachers and administrators get on such a power trip, they forget about educating their students and focus only on disciplining them. I also think that in grade school and high school, teachers first look at how a student behaves and what they do outside of class and then treat, judge, and discipline them according to their judgement on how "good" or "bad" they appear to be. Their main concern is not to make sure they learn, but make sure they behave. Many teachers grade students based on who they are, not what kind of work they turned in. I think both the quote and the paradox's listed are a good example of how the educational system operates, at least in the schools I attended. If a student was late to class or missed a class without a appropriate excuse they were sent to wait in a long line to see the principle, missing more and more class. This discipline doesn't help the student learn more, it prevents them from learning.
