"Marital Power," is an interesting reading. I think in the old-school, traditional family is where you will find that that father tends to have more power, as he is the one who provides the shelter and income for the family, while the mother stays home and takes care of the kids and the house. I think that is where the power aspect comes into play. In modern times this point of view no longer is an effective way to look at things. More and more women are becoming educated and holding steady in a career. The work place gender gap is certainly closing in terms of numbers. The stereotypical family is not so prominent these days with the growing divorce rate producing more and more single-parent households. Women have the right to an equal stake in the power
of a marriage. Not only are they still nurturing and playing the role of mother, but they are also earning income for the family. Therefore, women are becoming more influential in the role of power within their families.
