2. Discuss why some gays and lesbians would oppose gay marriage. Discuss why many gays and lesbians support gay marriage. Do you support gay marriage? Why or why not?

Some gay and lesbian couples oppose gay marriage because some feel it fights the wrong fight. People like Nancy Polikoff want to detach certain systems (health care, economic benefits, etc.) from marriage. Polikoff also wants to transform the idea of marriage and does not think this will easily be done through gaining legal rights to marry into the current system.

Some gay and lesbian couples support gay marriage because they want to fight for equal rights of marriage right now and work on the structure while or after obtaining the rights.

I do not support gay marriages. In Genesis, it is written, "The man said (Adam), ‘This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called "woman," for she was taken out of man.' For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame." God clearly defines this union as between a man and a woman.

In Corinthians, God defines homosexuality as a sin. "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."

As a God fearing Christian, He tells me where I must stand on this issue. As far as laws, many times I " Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." Whether there are carnal laws forbidding or permitting fornication, sodomy, murder, etc. the laws of my God never change and He is the ultimate judge. My concern is not ultimately with wether the law is passed or not, but that everyone knows the truth about Jesus so they might have salvation.
