I think the discrepancy in high rates of violence in the city versus the suburbs has more to do with the people that live there than anything else. I think because people there have jobs with longer hours, and/or they have to work several jobs, their children go unattended after school. This leads to boredom, which leads to expiramentation. It may be with drugs or gangs, but it all leads to trouble. Also because they have less money, they may not be able to afford quality day care, so then the same thing happens. The children are not supervised. Another reason why the rates are so much higher in the city, is because the children actually "see" the acts of violence. This makes them "hard" from a young age, and it is easier for them to copy the violence. Violences may have even been committed against them, and they may be angry. Or they may be angry because their life is so hard, and they don't have the nice toys or their mommy's and daddies aren't around. In the city people tend to get caught up in drugs/crimes, and this includes parents. So the parents may be teaching them that it is ok do bad things. So, overall it is more the lifestyle there {wanted or not} that causes the high violence. Not the t.v.
