Despite the role of the media, what we need to remember is it's effect on our memory.
Do we forget where we're from? Our roles in this society reminds us where we fit in. The media assures and comforts us that change is impossible because of the firmness of our foundation. What's in is what is good, what's out is old news. The clothes we wear, the standards we live by and what we drive is influenced by the media.
What is morality? Who is the enemy? Just wait till morning and the media will tell us. Why are any of us in school if we've lost control or the power to decide what is truth? Personally, I'm enrolled to "liberate myself from the shackles of traditional society"(Margaret Marsh).
To obliterate any chance of deviation from the unity that supposedly exists in "Their" country, the "I am an American" campaign was started recently. Would any of Catholicisms leaders start an "I am a Catholic" campaign? No, because we equate priests with pedophiles.
The truth is just below the surface in some instances, but the majority of our time should be spent doing what we are now doing. Educating and communicating.
