Upon reading the two conflicting arguments, I found myself in both agreement and disagreement with certain points from each side. It's no new news that politicians love to blame the media for the over abundance of violence and murder in our country. Especially when we're speaking about the youth. It seems to me that the media, news and talk shows specifically, often puts blame on its fellow forms of communication and entertainment. I also feel just in point an accusing finger at the entire mass media for playing a major role in the escalation of today's crime. Almost any type of crime can be witnessed in what we hear, read, or watch, day in and day out. Relentlessly, over and over. It's similar to the case where a parent calls his or her child stupid all the time, that child is likely to adopt that belief or mentality for them self.
Now Mike Males claims that this common argument doesn't hold up. He says basically that ones race, gender and geographic location are more responsible for violence. Race? Well if you have a number of inner city minority youth shooting each other regularly, does it make the occasional suburban or small town white boy less impacting when he makes a bomb threat or mows down half the school with a M-16? Neither instance is rare these days. I do agree that gender is a factor due to the male being naturally more aggressive. I think the main reason that larger cities and ghettos are more likely to feel violence and crime is because of much denser population(rats in the cage).
I don't know! All this mess just makes me think of Crosby,Stills and Nash singin' to "TEACH YOUR CHILDREN WELL"
