When Tompkins began to research for
her American Indian studies class she
wasn't expecting to come to realize that
her perception of truth is immacuately
distorted. She had to sift through works
that either didn't believe that Indians
played a major role in the uprising of
America, or works that contradicted
another piece of information she had just
read. As she began to realize that she
was going to have to depict what really
happend in history, her mind began to
think outside of the box which left her in a
moral quandary--what is truth? If all of
her resources had their hand on the
bible, then why were none of the works
comparable.
In her conclusion, she found that the
works were neither true nor false, but they
were facts derived from an opposing
angle. She did not sum up a conclusion
or find the truth. What she did find is that
truth changes with the angle of vision and
are facts perceived through viewer.
