In Tompkin's conclusion she realizes that she has to make her best assumption
concerning European-Indian relations by looking at other people's perspective
stories. She goes on to explain that by doing this we never find the answers to very
important times in history. She recognizes that the debated subject (Indians) has
changed and her new question is how knowledge is arrived at. Tompkin's moral
problem now is the fact that her work, "is not directed toward solving the kinds of
problems that studying the history of European-Indian relations has awakened me
to."
