I think that one of the major barriers to democracy in the United States is the "two party system". A perfect example of the corrupt electoral system is the last election for president. We had two choices, realistically. One was a money driven, oil barren. And the other sadly, was not much better. When I went to vote I felt has though I had to vote for the lesser of two evils, which in the end was Gore. I was tempted though to go out on a limb and vote for Nader, but knowing the way our society is structured I knew didn't stand a chance with the billionaires who ran beside him. I would have voted for Nader but I knew it would be a wasted vote. To me this is a sad reality that the candidate with the most money often wins the race. As the book mentions about how Perot could not even take part in the presidential debates because he was not part of the "two party" system. That does not sound like democracy to me, it sounds more like a conspiracy to protect wealthy candidate and big corporations that support democrats and republicans. I believe that when it comes down to it there really is not much difference between republicans and democrats. I can only hope that some day soon we will have a fair and balanced election, where the truly deserving candidate will come out on top. Not the one with the most money, or whose daddy was president.
