Marxists agree that the state serves the interest of the capitalist class, however they firmly disagree on how this is achieved. They are separated their views into two distinct views on this subject. One view is the instrumentalist and the other is structuralist. The instrumentalist view of power is that the ruling class controls political institutions through money and influence where as the structuralist view of power is that the ruling class gets its way because the political and economical institutions are biased in its favor.
