I see some truths in the Representative Democracy theory, but mostly I agree with the criticisms. The main point of this theory is that we {"the people"} elect representatives to speak for us, and they make decisions that best fit the people. This is obviously not what happens. This is why most of the country is under the poverty line, and all government officials live in mansions. They make decisions that fit their lifestyle, and help benefit the rich. {After all the rich are the hands that feed them, right?} I guess if I was a politician who had no morals, I wouldn't see any reason to go against the rich. If I did, I'd end up living in some poor community that the government doesn't care about, and I'd be like all the other people that don't get spoken for. As far as all the people that contribute to the politicians, the only reason they give their precious money away, is so they get their way. They could care less who the person is, as long as they get what they want. It's really sad to know that the people who make it to the top of the government, are the really just the people who could kiss-ass the best. One thing I did agree with was the fact that we, the people, shouldn't have all the power. Otherwise what would we need the government for at all? We need them to protects us, and to help take crime out of the streets. My dad was a police Sergeant on the swat team for 20 years, and it makes me feel good to know that he is not a corrupt man. He did a lot of good things, in a very bad world. If we could get more people like that into the government, we'd be a lot better off. But that's beside the point. E&Z criticized that the government acts undemocratically by holding secret meetings. I personally belive that these meetings are with good intentions. If we knew everything, that that means our enemies would know everything. That is one thing I got very annoyed with by the September 11th bombings. The media went in expecting all the answers, and would try to make the speakers look stupid if they didn't get any. Why would the government put out our plans into to the open and into the media. Why don't we just say, Hey Bin Laden, we are going to go to "this spot" at "this time". So, try to be there ok? How stupid is that? So I do think that some secrecy is very important. {Plus, I know I don't want to know everything that goes on out there in the government. It's scary enough just dealing with the publics problems!} I actually think that if we had the right people in the government, Representative Democracy would something that would benefit us all. But I guess that will never happen....
