I. beliefs of early Xians about Jesus
A.) Nesorianism taught that jesus had two natures on human and on divine.
-only the human nature was born, suffered and crucified.
-in response, jesus did have human body but john claims Christ as (logos) "Word" was with God in the beginnning before he was born on earth.
B.)Docetism-JC humanity was an illusion. Being a man is not-compatable w/being Divine.

C.) Monophysitism-No human nature of jesus, just body.
1. Jesus had one nature-divine-but it was indwelling in a human body .

D.) infiltration of these in today's Xianiity sects-Nestorianism started arguing with the (theotokos) "mother of God" ideas. but eventually because so many converts were of Pagan descent, veneration was allowed. e.g. catholics venerate mary, pray, praise, but they do not worship her.

II. Arianism-Jesus was a created being. God the father created the Logos before the incarnation.

A.) Jesus was the Son of God, not God the Son. they asked, "how could God die?"
B.) because of this, they looked at Jesus as not completely Divine, therefore discrediting the Gospel.
C.) Colossians 1:15: Deems jesus as first born of all Creation. the principle god uses to create the universe.

D.) Jehova witnesses believe the Holy Spirit and GOd the father are the same.

IV. ) Sebelianism: after (sabellius)

a.) said the father, son, and holy spirit are 3 different modes or manifestations of the one God.
A.) ot-God the fatherr
B.) NT-God the Son
now:God the Spirit.

e.g.-united Penecostals believe in this over the trinity.
