Son of God = God Incarnate

APOSTLES
Mark- 2nd apostle, traveling companion of Peter- apostle, sometimes called Mark Paul, early gospel, Roman audience, 60s A.D., strong eschatology - study of “last things,” end of age. (from the Greek “eschaton,” meaning age), low Christology (not much emphasis on Jesus’ talking.

Matthew- Disciple, tax collector, Jewish audience, prophesies that Jesus fulfilled.

Luke- Traveling companion of Paul, Greek physician, historian, Greek audience.

John- 4th apostle, disciple, beloved, metaphysical discourses, high Christology (clear, strong, statements of Jesus’ divinity), general audience (non Jewish.)


Disciple- 12 (Possibly 13 because one died), apostles, (represent the 12 tribes of Israel.)

Paul- Meets physical Jesus (Luke, traveling companion of Paul), apostle (going to persecute Christians in Jerusalem, sees Jesus.)

Some are skeptical of gospel of Thomas (he was later.)

New testament- Written A.D., John last gospel 90-95 A.D. (put in 2nd century), John’s papyrus 125 A.D. (copies), Represents oldest traditions of Jesus.

Stories in Bible- One had to be a disciple or close associate of Jesus.

Israel called “God’s son.”

Exodus (God calls to son in Egypt.)

“Jews” become enemies of Jesus.
