what constitutes murder?
war? arent these things that God commands?
-isn' a command and command?

-Law code of Hammurabi: similar law code (Babylonian) not exactly identical, one deals with class.

-The 6th comm. does not forbid killing a human being under any circumstances because in the next chapter God commands executions, later orders war.

*Yomkippur- day of atonement
-highest holy day
-for all sins you have not made up you must make up
-all leftover sins taken on by the high priest, then transfered to the scapegoat and driven into the wilderness.
-today it is a rime of repentance, reflectioin, resolution to do better.

Deutoronomy 28 - blessings and cursings
-God says her is the law, compares benefits/ consequences
-healthy children/ many children
-healthy livestock
-military victory/ national security
*cursings are more- poverty, disease, disaster, famine and a very long list.


Invasion of Canaan

-commanded to kill or drive out inhabitants
1)to curtail any later rebellion
2)to curtail religious contamination
-canaanites sacraficed to a god named Molech. would make live sacrafices of children
-practiced fertility religion (sex) Storm god and earthmother. so in worship there would be orgies and lots of sex.
