~Christianity and the Gospel of Mark~

~Christians accept both the Old and New Testaments as sacred or inspired.

~Testament means covenant or contract

Old Testament:
~focus on the Law of Moses (Torah)

New Testament:
~consist of 4 Gospels(Matthew,Mark,Luke,John)
~Letters of Paul (also called Epistles)
~Letters of others such as John,Peter,and
James the brother of Jesus
~The Book of Revelation (Apocalyptic
literature, the visions of John the
deciple)

~The 4 Gospels are best historical evidence of Jesus. (Good news of Jesus-Biographies)

~Letters of Paul was earlier that Gospels but Paul didn't know earthly Jesus (Paul sees Jesus as a light)

Jesus:
~born about 2 B.C. and died about 27 A.D.
~claims to be "both" the Messiah and son of
God
~crucified and charged by Jews for Blasphemy
(claiming to be son of God) and charged by Romans for Sedition(trying to overthrow the government or claim to be Messiah)
~"King of the Jews" sign over his cross
~on third day rose from dead as proof of his claim
~will return to judge the world(2nd Coming)

Pharisees:
~controlled the synagogue system,typically Rabbis

Sadducees:
~controlled the temple-sacrifices

Zealots:
~just wanted to rebel against rome
