Quran takes much from both Old and New Testaments -- many stories from OT, Jesus from NT

Jesus was not the son of God, that comes from his disciples and later distortions of his message. He was a prophet and a great teacher


After the "Satanic Verses" incident Muhammad was mocked for Allah's seeming indecision on the issue of whether or not His 3 daughters should be worshipped.

Muhammad was eventually forced to flee to Ta-If, and then to the city of Yathrib, later Medina (lit: "The city of the prophet")

Muhammad mediated a dispute between two local leaders in Medina, converting many people.

Muhammad began launching a series of raids against caravans, using the loot to hire more soldiers so he could hit even bigger caravans.

Muhammad specialized in raiding Jewish communities, who were, for the most part, militarily inept and specialized in gold, silver and gems

Muhammad originally tried to convert Arabia's Jewish population, telling his followers to follow Jewish dietary laws and play towards Jerusalem. He later tired of this and simply ordered his forces to kill them.

Meccan forces defeated Muhammad in a terrible battle at Uhod. He himself was almost killed there.

After his forces had a chance to regroup and rebuild, Muhammad made a treaty with Mecca, asking for a chance for his forces to pray at the Kabah, which he saw as having been built by Adam. Muhammad's forces then attacked the Meccans and conquered the city. There is a good deal of disagreement over what exactly happened.
