[Killing]
~Does the 6th Commandment(do not murder) prohibit:
1.Capital Punishment-No. Example: Achan. Death was the punsihment for many crimes.
2.War-No. God condones war.

~Rebuttal: Israel was led by God; we as a nation are not.

~However, isn't a command a command?

~The 6th commandment doesn't forbid killing a human being under any circumstances, because in the next Chapter God commands executions and later orders war.

A.No hunters(birds that eat large live prey or dead things)

A.Must chew cud(cows,deer,sheep,goats)
B.Must have cloven(split) hooves-no horses, rabbits, or PIGS!

*"Clean" animals are ok to sacrifice, "unclean" ones are not.

[Yom Kippur(The Day of Atonement)]
~Highest holy day in Judaism

~Leftover sins taken on by a High Priest and transferred to the scapegoat, who is driven into the desert.

~Today, Yom Kippur is a time of repentance, reflection, and resolution to do better.

[Deuteronomy 28-Blessings and Cursings]
A.Blessings
1.material wealth
2.healthy, numerous children
3.healthy crops and livestock
4.military victory and national security

B.Cursings
1.poverty
2.disease
3.famine
4.military defeat and foreign occupation
5.general disaster and calamity

*Note that the emphasis is on Cursings.

[Invasion of Canaan]
~Canaan: known as "The Holy Land" or "The Promised Land"
~Israelites are commanded to kill/drive out the inhabitants of this region in order to prevent any later rebellion, also to prevent religious contamination(worshipping other gods).
~Canaanites sacrificed to Molech, practiced fertility religion(storm god, earth mother)
