Jacob (Israel)- had 12 sons (12 tribes of Israel)

Moses- son of Egyptian princess by adoption with Hebrew parents
-his mother raised him as the princess' nursemaid

Exodus- departure (from Egypt and slavery)
About 1450 conservative or 1250 liberal
In Exodus 3 Moses meets Yahweh

10 plagues- show God's power
-punish Egypt
-God gains loot(silver and gold)
10th plague:Angel of Death- origin of Passover observance
Angel passes over Hebrew households
Eat- lamb(blood on door posts), bitter herbs(symbolizes slavery), and unleavened bread(symbolizes haste).
Jews are dressed to travel and eat in haste

Monolotry(worship of one God, but belief that others may exist) to Monotheism(belief and worship of only one God)

10 Commandments:
1.No other Gods
2.No Idols
3.Don't misuse "Yahweh"
4.Keep the Sabbath(Saturday)
5.Honor your father and mother
6.No Murder
7.No Adultery
8.No Stealing
9.No purgery
10.No coveting(lust after neighbor's possessions)

the first four commandments deal with God, five through ten deal with ethical obligations, and the tenth commandment is about internal attitude
