The Gettier Problem is a problem for?
A. The Correspondence Theory
B. The Tripartite Analysis of Knowledge
C. The "Relevant Alternatives" model for justification.
D. The dualist analysis of knowledge.
ANSWER B.

Tripartite analysis of knowledge-
Knowledge is:
-Belief
-True
-Justified
Problem: Some true justified beliefs do not seem intuitively to be knowledge.

Pojman: The truth of a belief and its justification must be related in the right way.

The Regress Problem(pg 106)
Ways of justifying a belief-
1. B which is unjustified leads to A, therefore A is unjustified.
2. F leads to E leads to D leads to C leads to C leads to B leads to A........ According to Pojman, the problem with this is that it requires an infinite set of beliefs for a finite mind, which is impossible. He believes that we do not really need an infinite set, rather we just need the possibility of going on, but for justification we stop where it is practical.
3. Circular A leads to B leads to C which leads to A. Coherentism- if the circle is big enough it gives justification.
4. Foundationalism- C leads to B leads to A, and C is a foundational belief.(Self Justified ex. the Scientific Model)

foundationalist include:
Descartes, Aristotle, Plato, Locke, Berkely, Hume(?).
Rationalist- "Foundation is Logic and Math"
Empiricist-" also things that are evident to the senses.

To be in the classical foundation(pre 20th century), beliefs need to be infallible, incorrigible, self-evident. Although some fallible beliefs belong in the foundation.

Basic Belief-a belief in a person's belief system foundation-not believed on the basis of another belief.

Properly basic belief- a belief which is justifiably basic- belongs in the foundation.
