There will be an extra credit video w/discussion during the final exam time Wednesday June 12 from 12:00 pm till 1:50 pm. The last day to take the exam will be Wednesday June 12 at 8:00 pm. Friday will be a review session.

Notes:

A. Painful truth or blissful ignorance?

1. Is truth intrinsically valuable or
only valuable as a means to other goods?

2. Libertarian view of Doxastic
responsibility. - Beliefs are private, no
belief is immoral.

B. Truth (freedom) or happiness?

C. Religious Belief.
1. Faith and Reason.
A. Irrationalist - faith is contrary
to reason. Faith is irrational.
B. Transrationalist - Faith is above
and beyond reason.
C. Commensuralist - Faith and reason
are compatible. (Pojman).

D. Religion is just a special case of theory building. Not different in kind from philosophy, science, politics, morality.

E. Soft perspectivism - people who hold various theories are in some sence locked into them, but can change through interaction with other views.

F. Hard perspectivism - people are locked into their own views & argument is futile.

1. Coach example:
A. Biased - says every call against
his team is bad.
B. Objective/impartial - give the
same call any spectator would, even if
his wife bet her life savings on the
game. (Pojman see's this as the
correct way)
1. Criticisms: Hard perspectivism
describes the way people actually
form belief.
Pojman: They should act according to
soft perspectivism.
