Can't prove there is not an arch deceiver.
example: Zebras, or painted mules?
Moore and Dretske: The burden of proof is on the skeptic to give us reasons to doubt common sense beliefs.
Common sense is innocent until proven guilty
G.E. Moore-Common sense is justified unless we are given specific reasons to doubt on specific occasions.
Common sense is neither common or, for the most part, does it make sense. What alternatives are relavent or plausible.
-culturally dependent
-common sense varies from all the different cultures
example: In America, epilepsy is a neurological desiese, everyone knows that. In china it is thought to be a demon possession. That is "common sense" to them.
-might also vary from person to person
-changes over time
"Internalist" criteria for justification(what seems true to most people)
When asking what " most people think" is obviously true, should everyone count equally?
If a lot of people belive something, does it make it more likely to be true?
Is that a good justification?
Is the force of widespread agreement merely phycological or social? Or is it rational?
Problem of Induction
Induction: Every swan I've seen so far has been white, therefore all swans are white.
Very probable, but never 100% accurate.
Deduction: All men are mortal, Socrates is a man, therefore Socrates is mortal.
Conclusion follows 100% from premises.
