Ancient Skepticism
started as a reaction to stoicism (stoics were Greko-Roman philosophers from the 4th century) The stoics were extreme rationalists, their gods name was Logos (which means reason), stoics believed their god was made of fire and that all human beings possessed a spark of this god allowing them to reason out all the important truths in life by looking inward to their divinity.
Skeptics aim in life is happiness, attained through understanding the universe and controlling our subjective reaction to life.
skeptics: the pursuit of knowledge leads to unhappiness suspend judgement leads to happiness
agnosticism; doesnt know if there is a god
Skeptic types: Academic (moderate skeptics) such as socrates and Plato believe in holding beliefs as tentative and a matter of probability
Pyrrhonian (Radical Skeptics) such as Pyrrho believe to doubt everything, even the fact that nothing certain.
