Alienation is a very interesting topic that I have studied in the past. Alienation is an idea
that represents the feeling that most service level or manufacturing workers feel in today's capitalist society. Upper management has created ways to make the production process the most efficient possible. Since production levels and efficiency are more important to a company than its workers are in today's competitive market, companies are finding ways to make the most of it's resources. Workers can go through an entire work day without really even thinking about what they are doing. Sometimes companies make it so they don't have to by programming all the tasks. (i.e., McDonald's) This practice eliminates the idea of someone putting their own personal touch in to a product. Thus leaving the worker feeling as if their contribution was meaningless, therefore they might start to question why they are even there.
