Okay, I am thoroughly disappointed with the reactions to this section. I know I am posting late, but I have to get this out...

I just read 37 replies of this class in support of our capitalist system. Maybe it is because I just read the media section last night, but you are all just regurgitating what we have been taught.

The capitalist system is based on profits. It looks out for money and business well being... Hello? Did you all read that in the books? We do not live in a country that is structured around the well being of the people. I will say that again... We do not live in a country that is structured around the well being of the people. Socialism is based around the desire of giving everyone the basic necessities they need like food, health care, shelter, etc.

Do you all really think that capitalism is the best system still? This is an extremely important question that requires us to look deeper into the systems and not our perceived and learned stereotypes of the systems, or bad examples of corrupt systems.

One student mentioned that capitalism rewards those that aspire.... UMMMMM sorry to break the bubble, but it doesn't. Our society rewards those that have resource assets from birth. A few poster blacks and women that have beat the system will tell you that these people tried hard, but there are thousands like them that the system did not let through... intentionally. Aspiration has almost nothing to do with success in this country, although we are unfortunately taught from a young age that it does. "Anyone can be president." "If you try hard you can accomplish anything." Tell these lies to those born in inner cities and you will most frequently get two responses: 1.Laugh in your face because they know it's a lie and have seen many try for generations and not get anywhere, or 2.Live with a destroyed esteem because they start to believe they are the problem and not the system around them.

You should all really think about this stuff. I don't know how many of you are in minority groups, or were raised in absolute poverty, but this system of capitalism is meant to profit one group and one group only... and it is not the impoverished, the dying, the malnutritioned, nor the hard working average Joe, Jose, Aisha, or Chen.
