I work as a receptionist for the state of oregon and I totally feel your situation you were in. Fortunately there are many names we can go by and I answer the phone different almost every time. I do not think this is intentional, but maybe it is...

The office I work for (Child Welfare) takes children into custody that have been abused or neglected, so the phone calls vary as well. It keeps things exciting and different. Some clients hate the agency and they hate me because I am "the gatekeeper" or whatever... And some clients hate their caseworkers and love me... And others realize they can not be a crank addict and a good parent, so they are cordial to all.

Although I question the decisions in many cases, I would like to see it more standardized. I do not like the McStandards that are put into some work places, but I think more guidelines need to be made when the placement of a child is involved.

My job is very routine to many standards, but it also helps to keep others accountable for things out of my control... which is nice when you for for an agency that many people hate.....
