Many politicians have definitely earned the belief that many people have (including yourself) that they are corrupt, greedy people. However, I disagree with you when you say that we have no control over our society. We have complete control over what happens in society. We have just chosen over many years not to exercise this control.

Voter turnout in our country is pitiful. Less than half of the registered voters decide to utilize their Constitutionally granted birth right to vote. And that figure is only for the national elections! For off-year elections, state elections, and local elections, the turnout drops precipitously. Why?? The reason I hear most often is because people are so discouraged with the political process. To me, that argument does not make a lot of sense, because the only way the process is going to change is if we change it.

I believe we live in a great country, and I think it can get immeasurably better, but we have to MAKE it better. We are the ones who put these people in power. They have to ask us for the job, and we are the one and only way that they can get the job.

There are a lot of bad things going on in Washington, but we can help fix it. By electing people like John McCain, Russ Feingold, Christopher Shays, and Marty Meehan, who have made the brave decision not to pander to corporate interests, we can change the way the system works.
