While I do agree that there is good and bad in both of forms of business, I can tell you from my own experiences, that it's not a fun place to be when you are on either side. For example: I work at a bakery which mergered two yrs. ago or so, and is now one of the biggest in the U.S. While this bakery ran through the depression, when it was a single ownership, now has laid off several workers myself included. Our union is less than adequate, and conditions run over 108 degrees in the summer. This merger has proven good for the company, but the workers are in a state of disbelief. Karl Marx was right in his prediction as far as I am concerned. Look at the results; people who once thought they had job security by a company thats been around for years, are now going to look elsewhere for work, and the company will higher unskilled, lower waged people who will not stay.
From a socialist point of view, I can see some good here. Let's look at "the power of eminant domain" That's when the government can take property from people for the good of all. In most cases this is a good thing. Sure there will always be hard feelings , but the government is required to pay fair market value, and the property always goes for a public service of some sort, it has to by law. Like school property or a library, even the new courthouse, which like it or not you will visit at some point for one reason or another. I have just read about this subject in a writing class I took. I am apposed to government control, however I do think it is necessary to some extent, as a means of control over big corperations, I just don't see that happening for the good of the people, as much as it is a way for the overnment to suck money out of the businesses themselves.
Capitalist or socialist? neither. I vote for a new order, one that has the least amount of government control, but the most amount of good for the people, and I don't think that's in the cards.
