I agree with you in that the HH reject the achievement ideology because they feel that it is unfair, somewhat but there is many other underlying reasons. I feel that the main reason that the HH reject the achievement ideology is because they have never seen it work. None of their family or friends have ever succeeded so why will it work for them. An example could be Frankie who's family is all failures, even the ones with high school diplomas. Also the HH are all, except Chris i in the job market and know how hard it is to get a good job. They use the blacks and affirmative action as a scapegoat for their failure. Maybe these programs do give some minorities an unfair advantage in the job market, but the also have the social networks that can get them jobs that also block the minorities from the same jobs. The brothers fully believe in the achievement ideology. There is a few reasons behind this. The first is that their parents believe in it and have instilled it in them. The HH parents have definetly not done this, for not wanting to cause false hope. The second reason is that the brothers have seen it work for people that they know. Some have older brothers and sisters that have had at least marginal success and also gone to college. The other reason id that the brothers have not been discouraged by the job market. The brothers have had jobs given to them and don't see how hard it really is. They believe that their race will have no effect on the job market.
