I believe that these differences are supportive of the culture of poverty theory in the case of the HH. This shows in the weekend girlfriend (less apt to defer gratification), the dropout rate of the HH (less likely to be interested in formal education), the drinking and drug use (less verbal, more fatalistic), and the long time periods in which they stay in the projects (transmitted from generation to generation). However, in the case of the Brothers, they stay in the projects less time, they have steady girlfriends, they have parents who discipline them and set limits and guidelines for them in which they follow, parents with more education, parents who push their aspirations onto their children and value the education and siblings whom they can see have acquired that education and the benefits it brings and I do not feel these things support the culture of poverty theory. So, how to explain the differences in these two groups who both live in the same place, have the same chances. I'm not sure, but I don't belive they do have the same chances. The Brothers' parents play a major role in that I believe. The value system between the two groups of parents is different and I believe that accounts for the differences in their life chances and they way they see things.
