I definetly agree with you. By putting the groups/other individuals problems ahead of their own it's getting them no where. It seems strange to me that these guys (the HH's) are in such a crappy situation and striving to better themselves, yet Slick thought that it would be rude to leave Shorty by himself with the cops when he easily could have gotten away, so he stayed with him and went to jail for it. Now I could understand this if Slick was helping Shorty get away, staying just so Shorty wouldn't have to hang with the cops by himself is just stupid. This is a perfect example of the gang helping ruin a members life chances.
