The hallway hangers are communitarians because the way the group treats each other and are very close. They believe that friendship is more important than money. The people that have the money screw other people in order to get richer. HH does not believe in that method of madness. So they follow their own rules and ignore authority and their way of thinking. Their solidarity plays a large role in their aspirations. The HH figures that the whole group is poor and has no productive future. So they all give up before they even start anything that could enhance their self worth. They drop out of school and take on dead-end jobs and move on to another. They never aspire to be better than a manual laborer.
