Anyway, I think Bernstein is saying that
the lower classed people don't
understand things because at home, the
parents don't speak to them intelligently.
They don't speak to them with
"interrogatives" as much as the middle
and upper classed do. I swear I read that
in there. It's not the differences in actual
language. It said not vocabulary or
structure, but by the meanings and what
they relate them to. Because they
socialize with different types of people
with different kinds of experiences so they
have more "elaborate" things to connect
their words to. This had nothing to do with
speaking a different language.
