Gans portrayal of the poor and society portrayal is very much of contrast. Society way of thinking is that the poor are undeserving and they do not deserve a chance to become normal. Because they are the root to a lot of our problems such as drugs, prostitution, and crimes of wide variety. I think what Gans is trying to state is that if we give the undeserving a chance, they can be socially acceptable and by all means be normal to a society that can be so harsh.
