I found it very interesting how isolated
many children in the upper class are
through schooling and socialization, but it
makes sense. I did not grow up in an
area where you sensed the rich going
somewhere else, but that is probably
because they never left, they were just
never around.

It must be hard to learn to break away
from such strict tradition and
snob-encouraging behavior when it is all
you have known.

I found it very interesting that people
would be a part of a club that is so closed
and non-inclusive. it is no wonder that
true diversity is hard to find in our country,
or true equality... things at the top have not
changed. I wonder what a race study
would find about the members of these
societies and clubs... actually, I bet I
know.

Dumhoff did not convince me that the
clubs and societies did not impact
economic or societal functions of the
general public. He said the clubs are "not
a place of power" yet I completely
disagree. When there are major
members of corporations in clubs that
are there to socialize the members and
set values and all members (by large
majority I am assuming) are white.... that
does influence decisions. The clubs or
clans serve to continue the culture that
existed and has survived in family bank
accounts since days of slavery. i don't
think much has changed in the heart of
hearts of many of these people, because
they have not had to change anything in
their core structures, values, comfort
zones, societies, and therefore minds.
