I also agree that refusal to work is the reason for poverty. My parents worked their whole life and we were always poor and on welfare.

I also agree that a large amount of people believe that the poor get more...The comments that people make when they see a person using food stamps or other forms of assistance is disgusting.

There have been times when I go to the grocery store by myself with my three little girls and buy food. There are five in my family so I usually fill the cart, I have actually had more than one checker assume that I was paying with food stamps because I was alone with three small children, or because I dress in worn blue jeans and a sweatshirt? I really don't know why but I find it very irritating and I will usually voice my opinion right there on the spot, usually gets me in trouble though. : )

I think that the 'Welfare is a Black and Latino Program' myth is very common. According to the book 46% of people who make up the majority of poor are white.
