The first myth that I want to talk about is the refusal to work. I agree that this is a myth. The people who do work and try for their families get screwed out of some benefits because they show that they make income. The poor that don’t work make no income so they qualify for some of the programs.

The second myth is the welfare dependency. I agree with most of this except for the part about the mothers. I know of many women who have a child and then have another one and so on, so they can get more welfare. A perfect example is actually my sister. She moved to Oklahoma and had a kid and then two more, a total of 3 kids all within 3 years. She even admits to doing it which is sad to say.

I also agree with the idea that poor pay more then nonpoor for some services. The poor do not get special advantages. They do get some help but the nonpoor should not be comparing themselves to the poor. They are in two different situations. The people who vary above then below the poverty line are the people who would know the best about this topic.

Finally I agree with the fact that non-hispanic whites are the most numerous in the poverty population. The myth that black and Latinos are the majority in poverty is incorrect.
