Fridays notes-
Thervada- pg.39-Happpiness- "We live happily indeed...like the bright
gods." Like the "Tune in and drop out" mode.
Dharma in Hinduisism = do your duty
hinduism also preaches a commection with "Brahman". That is two different branches of the same religion.
Theravada- Bodily existence is seen as a bad thing. Get away from desires. Eating is a burdin. Hunger is a burden. Lust for fame riches etc. leads to misery and unhappiness. pg.16- Pleasure- 2 ways of suffering- facing the unpleasant and worrying about it. Face up to the inevitable. Not being able to obtain what is pleasant.
Stoicism- Our reaction to life is what makes us suffer, not so much what happens.
Be content with what you have.
Hinduism- Non Attachment. Don't let it get to you if someone you love kicks the bucket.
Mahayana Parables- pg. 118- "Burning House"
Father, playing heroe, leads his kids into believing that he has gifts for them so as to lure out of the burning house before they die. Are his actions wrong. Is he lying?
