Theravada;Dhammapada
Happiness p.39 Burtt
-Craving desire source of suffering.Want peace, calmness, serenity, free from burden of role in society and expectation of others.
-Solitary personal quest as opposed to Mahayana where still fit into society while fulfilling spirituality.
-Stay away from completely from bodily wants/desires.
-Eating/hunger is seen as a burden, something you have to do in modeeration to get rid of hunger pains.
-Be happy with fulfilling desires for a while but eventually will envy the man with peace, serenity.

Two ways of suffering:
1.Facing the unpleasant (like going to the dentist)-Getting what you don't want
2.Not being able to attain what's pleasant- wanting what you don't have

Get ultimate happiness by being content with what you have
-non attachment; can't suffer if you are not attached to what you lose

Mahayana parables:
-p.118 burning house. Dad trying to get kids out, kids playing and ignore Dad. he pretends there's great toys outside, they run out. Is he a liar or deceiving them?
+Burning house=ignorance/suffering
+carts (toys)=Theravada Buddhism, a lure to attract followers to Buddha's Dharma
-Put away toys of theravada and become an adult with Mahayana.
