We talked about the Ramayana one of the epics. This epic was about prince Rama whose wife (Sita) was kidnapped by the demon king of Lanka. Rama and the monkey god Hanuman kill the demon king and get his wife back. The god Hanuman is used to represent self sacrifice in the spirit of friendship. unfortunately all the villagers questioned the purity of the queen after having stayed with the Demon king. Even after passing tests they still grumbled. It was agreed by the queen and Rama that no matter how much they love each other that it was best to do their duty (dharma) for the good of the country and that the queen would be banished.
Then we went on to further explore the topic of the Bhagavad Gita.
We addressed human problems that were talked about in the Gita:
1.selfish desire, which is the enemy of the soul and can be combated with karma yoga and doing good works.
2.Ignorance, you need to shed your ignorance that you exist on your own that in all actuality you are the Brahman and that your Atman or true self is also part of Brahman.
3.Renunciation is something that can aid you in your search for Brahman because once you shed your ego and worldly desires there is nothing left to realize except the truth
We talked a little about meditation and part of the gift when seeking Brahman in meditation is nirvana or blissful freedom and inner calmness. During meditation hindu practice is to chant the word OM which is the ancient syllable for Brahman.
The principle of Bhakti was introduced which means that through love of God anyone can reach Brahman.
