--Ontological arguments (Greek word ontos = being or existence)
Descartes=God is a perfect being, existence is perfect, therefore God exists
ex: selling a car, BMW, 20,000 miles, runs well, and it EXISTS.
-perfect making property-if exist it is more perfect than if it didn't exist.
-flaw if God doesn't exist, therefore God must exist b/c God is perfect.
-Anselm tries indirect proof-reductioadabsurdum- reduce to absurdity. Arguing by assuming someone's argument is true and by using logic prove it to be false (lead to contradiction). Suppose Atheism is true>contradiction>atheism is not true(god exists)
ex:"It doesn't matter what the Pres. does as a private citizen as long as he is doing a good job as pres." Suppose above statement is true, what does it imply? Suppose Pres. murders his wife, therefore according to the statement above he should not be prosecuted, if he is doing a good job as pres. "Pres. should get away with murder as long as doing a good job. Absurd, therefore it does matter what the pres does as private citizen.
The greatest capable being must exist or wouldn't be greatest.
