*Materialism*
Reductive Materialism-there is now Zeus, just
a static discharge of electricity. There
are no fragmental or spiritual things, just
brain states.
Eliminative Materialism-basically there are
no mental sates, maybe what people thought
was mental, is really just physical
phenomena. Talking in furious of thoughts
is real=> FALSE.
-Spiritual vs. Mental things.
-Firings of the neurons in the brain.
-Mind-body identity theory=>behaviorism>
hard->materialist view->generic->monism
-Generics say that Folk Psychology is okay
in some respects.
-Water is H2O->scientific->morning star
-Water is a clear colorless liquid which
quenches thirst.->evening star
*Morning star and evening star are
different in meaning, same in reference.

-Taylor says there is no problem with the

-A person = Human Body
-If person = mind, then we wouldn't say "I

-Someone, somebody, some person->all related
-Taylor supports eliminative materialism
-Physical objects can be true or false.
-There are certain predictions that rely on
mind.
-Taylor could be missing part of the story.
-Looking at reality at a large perspective.
1. "Ordinary Language" about persons
supports materialism as well as dualism
(equally).
2. Appeals to first person experience fail->
First person experience=>we know about
consciousness through direct experience
-> "I think, therefore, I am".
-Just as a matter of logic, you can't deny
your own consciousness.
-Consciousness is known directly;the
material world is an inference, a theoretic
posit, hypothesis.
-Pain is physical or pain is supposedly a
mental thing
-The "MIND" is physical
-Pain is an object of consciousness, pain is
physical, therefore consciousness is
physical.

a)Consciousness experience directly
b)Material world
