Deontlogy (deon- rule or moral rules)
main points:
- Find out what the moral rule is and follow it
-Morality is a matter of following a set of exception less rules which describe rights and responsibilities.

Motive is what is important in deontology
Morality= doing duty because it your duty because it is right. (right motive/good intentions)

Having a good will- a good will is the only thing which is intrinsically good
Happiness is only good when it is in a person who is good.
Possible other intrinsic goods
-happiness- evil people don't deserve happiness
-intelligent-evil genius
it is wrong to benefit from the suffering of others even if it benefits the majority of people.
Morality is intuited through pure reason
SHOPKEEPER EXAMPLE- 3 motives for honesty
1) natural (direct) inclination- he's a nice guy and prefers to be honest
2)indirect inclination- wants to avoid trouble with the law or lost business
3) duty- its wrong to cheat customers
the first 2 are both motivated by selfishness and desire. the third deserves moral praise.
